Information we handle

When you contact us

Our website form asks for your name, email address, area of interest and message. You may also provide a company or organisation name. We receive this information so that we can respond to your enquiry. Please do not include sensitive information or details about a child unless they are genuinely necessary.

When you visit the website

Our hosting and security provider may process limited technical information needed to deliver and protect the website, such as an IP address, browser or device type, requested page, time of request and security events. The light or dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage. We do not currently operate a separate advertising or behavioural analytics system on this website.

When a family uses Lumira

A parent or guardian can create a local child profile using information such as a name or nickname, age, avatar, interests, preferred language and accessibility preferences. Lumira also keeps local activity information such as reading progress, favourites, quiz or game results, streaks, badges and achievements.

Portal Animation does not currently receive or store these child profiles and progress records on its servers. They remain on the device unless the parent resets them or removes the app. Lumira does not currently require an online account.

Lumira connects to our content service to retrieve public catalogue information and media. Those requests may create routine technical logs, such as IP address, request time and device or network information, but the public content request is not designed to include the child's local profile or learning history.

03

Children and parental involvement

Lumira is made for children and families, but it is intended to be installed, configured and overseen by a parent or guardian. We ask the adult to manage the profile and grown-up settings. We do not currently ask a child for an email address, precise location or advertising identifier, and we do not use third-party advertising in Lumira.

Parents can review and reset locally stored reading history, quiz history, game scores and badges from the grown-up area. Removing Lumira from the device removes the app's locally held data, subject to the device platform's normal backup and deletion behaviour.

If you believe a child has sent personal information to us directly through the website or another channel without appropriate parental involvement, email us and we will investigate and take appropriate action.

04

Why we use information

Responding to enquiries

To answer questions, discuss possible projects and take steps requested before a contract. We rely on legitimate interests and, where relevant, steps toward a contract.

Operating and protecting services

To deliver the website and app content, maintain reliability, prevent misuse and diagnose technical problems. We rely on legitimate interests and our legal responsibilities.

Meeting legal obligations

To maintain necessary business records, respond to lawful requests, manage privacy rights and establish or defend legal claims.

Submitting the contact form does not subscribe you to marketing. If we introduce marketing communications, we will provide a separate optional choice where required.

05

Providers and recipients

We use a small number of providers to operate the website and Lumira. They may process information for us only to provide their services, subject to their terms and applicable data-protection safeguards.

  • Cloudflare — website delivery, hosting, network security and related technical logs. Cloudflare privacy information ↗
  • FormSubmit — securely transmitting website contact-form submissions to our company inbox. FormSubmit privacy information ↗
  • Supabase — delivering Lumira's public content catalogue and associated media references. Lumira's local child profile and progress are not currently stored in Supabase. Supabase privacy information ↗
  • Apple — distributing the iOS app and providing the device platform. Apple may process App Store activity and optional diagnostics according to the user's Apple settings and Apple's own policy. Apple privacy information ↗

We may also disclose limited information where required by law, to professional advisers under duties of confidentiality, or where necessary to protect legal rights and safety. Some providers may process information outside the European Economic Area. Where required, we use appropriate contractual or legal safeguards for those transfers.

06

How long information is kept

  • Website enquiries: normally up to 24 months after the last meaningful contact, unless a longer period is needed for a contract, legal obligation or claim.
  • Lumira profile and progress: on the device until a parent resets it or the app is removed. Downloaded content remains until it is removed through the app or the app is uninstalled.
  • Technical and security logs: retained by our providers for the periods needed to deliver, secure and troubleshoot their services.
  • Privacy and legal correspondence: retained as reasonably necessary to demonstrate compliance and resolve the request.

Deletion

Lumira does not currently create an online user account. Parents can reset categories of local progress in the grown-up settings and can remove the app to delete its local app data. For information you sent directly to Portal Animation, email info@portalanimation.com with “Data deletion request” in the subject. We may need to verify the requester's identity and may retain limited information where the law requires it.

07

Your privacy rights

Depending on the circumstances, people in Ireland and the European Economic Area may ask for access to personal data, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or object to certain processing. Where processing is based on consent, consent can be withdrawn without affecting earlier lawful processing.

You also have the right to complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission. Visit dataprotection.ie ↗ for contact details and guidance. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern directly first.

08

Security, changes and contact

We use reasonable organisational and technical measures designed to protect information. No service can promise absolute security, so we review our practices as the website and Lumira develop.

We will update this policy before introducing materially different data practices—such as online child accounts, cloud progress sync, advertising or new analytics—and will provide any notices or parental choices required by law.
